Catching Waves with Master Surfboard Shaper Tom Wegener in Noosa

Writer's picture: ECRGECRG

Students and Faculty from the University of Wyoming, USA visited Noosa to learn about the Noosa Surf Reserve, the role that surfing plays in achieving local and global sustainability goals, and local surf culture through interactions with the water, people and environment. The group was led by Master surfboard artisan Dr. Tom Wegener and university geographers Dr. Tristan Pearce and Dr. Javier Leon. On a day when everyone said that there were no waves, the group found a perfect beach break! The day is part of a larger initiative to include surfing in geography education.
