'Nunamin Illihakvia' and 'Tooniktoyok' proposals approved!

We are delighted to share the news that two projects that are partnerships between the community of Ulukhaktok, NT and Dr. Tristan Pearce have been awarded funding! The ‘Nunamin Illihakvia: Learning from the Land’ project, a partnership between the Ulukhaktok Community Corporation and Dr. Pearce, has been awarded funding through March 2019 from Health Canada to renew the project and improve upon the outcomes from the 2013-14 iteration (video below).Nunamin Illihakvia aims to bring together young Inuit, male and female, with experienced hunters and sewers, and Elders to learn how to travel and hunt under changing conditions, how to prepare and sew hides, and promote the learning and use of Inuinnaqtun language. The 'Tooniktoyokproject, a partnership between the Hamlet of Ulukhaktok and Dr. Pearce, has been awarded funding through March 2019 from Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada. Tooniktoyok aims to develop a dynamic understanding of how changing climatic conditions are affecting subsistence hunting and adaptation options.
